bath home improvement

Is there any handicap home improvement grants to add an addition to your home for a bedroom and bath?
I am currently trying to relocate my mother to VA . I need to make a handicap accessible room for her on my first floor with a bathroom
Check with the Social Security Administration, your local city or county’s senior citizens’ aid department and AARP. (AARP has got some great info on its website at AARP.org.) If everyone on your home’s title is 62 or older, you could qualify for a reverse mortgage, which can help pay for the remodel.
Here are some tips I put into my Summer: 08 newsletter that can help with your accessible bath planning:
·Replace a standard toilet with a comfort-height version
·Add grab bars in the shower, tub and toilet areas
·Replace knob-style faucets with lever-handled faucets
·Replace a wall-mounted shower head with one on a slide bar
·Replace a pre-code shower valve with a non-scald version
·Add a bench to the shower stall
·Increase the bathroom’s lighting
·Check that the vent fan is working properly to help avoid mold
Replace smooth, slick flooring with a less slippery textured tile
I would also suggest working with either an NKBA Certified designer, whom you can find in your local area at NKBA.org, or a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist, whom you can find at NAHB.org.
Good luck to both of you!
